2012 Diary
Days from Stocking
March 26, 2012 -21 Start to fill feeder pond.  Pump on 12:00 noon.
March 26, 2012 -21 Burn Pond edge and fence.
March 27, 2012 -20 Pump off 8:30 pm.
March 28, 2012 -19 Pump on 9:00 am.  Pump off 7:45 pm.
April 5, 2012 -11 Burn fence debris.
April 7, 2012 -9 Milorganite and Soy on pond.  Remove rest of rocks and trees from feeder pond.
April 7, 2012 -9 Started 75 HP at 11:03 am.
April 8, 2012 -8 7:45 am 5 HP off.  Will start draining food pond this afternoon -- let it warm some.
April 8, 2012 -8 3:15 pm -- 28.2 hrs run time.  Water temp at dock 50 F.  Water temp at pond 45 F.
75 HP OK.  All bearings are cool.
April 9, 2012 -7 9:03 am -- all OK.  46.0 hrs pumping.
April 9, 2012 -7 6:26 pm -- pump off, 55.5 hrs.  Lake down 30".  Pond 83".
April 10, 2012 -6 46 lb Milorganite & 50 lb soy put in feeder pond.
April 11, 2012 -5 12:00 noon -- Stopped drain on food pond.  Started refill.  Lake 51 F.  Pond 46 F.
April 13, 2012 -3 9:40 am -- 5 HP off.  Food pond full.  Pond temp 49 F.
April 16, 2012 0 250,000 fry from DNR in pond.
April 17, 2012 1 Additional 70,000 fry from DNR added to pond.
April 24, 2012 8 John Kreinbrink and Carter Koles took food sample.
Walleye Pond -- Enormous amount of food, BIG daphnia.
Food Pond -- Lots of little food.  Also has daphnia.
April 29, 2012 13 Good food in pond -- Lots of daphnia.
Took 2 samples of 60 fish for DNR.
To test for VHS at Mich State Lab.   /Carter Koles
May 6, 2012 20 Spread 800 lb of soybean meal in Walleye Pond.
Took daphnia sample -- walleye pond -- 1 pull -- Enormous amount of daphnia.  All Sizes -- small, med, lg, 2nd super lg.  /Carter Koles
May 8, 2012 22 Took daphnia sample at 3:50 pm.  Massive bugs at spillway.  Can also see fish.
May 9, 2012 23 Checked daphnia in Walleye pond and Food Pond.
Walleye pond has enormous amount of daphnia and Food pond has quite a bit.
We will put daphnia in the Food pond when they are available from the Waste Treatment Plant.
May 12, 2012 26 Spread 700 lb soy bean meal.
Took sample of daphnia in Walleye pond and Food Pond.
Daphnia great in both ponds -- better in Walleye pond.
Drained Food pond by half to kill willows by burning. about half the water in the Food pond so we can remove the willows by burning.  
May 13, 2012 27 Caught fish 21 mm size -- food is great!  Fish are growing fast. /CMK
May 16, 2012 30 9:26 am.  One pull, many bugs.
May 20, 2012 34 Size of Walleye 30 mm (1.18 in).  Grew 9 mm in 7 days.
Lots of food in the plankton net-pull.
May 21, 2012 35 DNR samples fish and checked bugs.
Nice size, averaged 29.6 mm (DNR).
Filling Feed pond; all cleaned.
Put 25 lb soy in it.
Pump on 1:00 pm.
May 23, 2012 37 Daphnia in pond is great.  Saw many fish from walkway -- couldn't catch any.  They look Good!
Rich O'Neal was here from the DNR.  I showed him around.  Things went well! / CMK
May 29, 2012 43 DRN here putting in 14 Fyke nets and CuSO4; with plan to harvest tomorrow.
Water temp is 75 F.
June 4, 2012 49 Drained pond and transported fish to N Lincoln Road end on Hamlin Lake.
June 6, 2012 51 Fingerling report:
143,730 to Lake Mitchell
  59,696 to Lake Cadillac
  27,586 to Big Star Lake
  25,755 to Hamlin Lake
June 17, 2012 62 Two IBCs of Daphnia placed in the food pond from the Ludington WWTP.
